Cook on your stove top or BBQPlease, Read Past The Headline!
Please rest assured, log burners are NOT going to be banned!
If you read past the glaring headlines, you'll see the real news is not about banning log burners!. It's about encouraging the use of well seasoned wood and efficient log burners and multi-fuel stoves.
After all, most modern stoves are DEFRA Approved and any new stoves will have to meet higher standards come 2022. Many are already meeting the Stove Industry Alliance "ecodesign ready" standard, aimed at reducing the impact on the environment.
Open fires and bonfires, old inefficient stoves, BBQs and firepits, using unseasoned or non approved fuels are the main culprits, outside of industry and transport. Open fires are generally no better than 15-20% efficient and are heavily polluting. Modern stoves must reach a standard 4 times more efficient and produce vastly fewer particulates to meet the new standards. Modern stoves burn sustainably produced and renewable fuels, unlike gas and oil burners and many electricity plants.
Modern stoves and well seasoned fuels are part of the solution to reducing particulates, pollution and carbon dioxide emissions, not part of the problem.
